Esther Kemper is a PhD-candidate at the Department of Human Biology at Maastricht University and is supervised by Michiel Adriaens, Ruth Meex and Ellen Blaak. Esther’s research focuses on metabolic health in relation to tissue-specific insulin resistance. For her research she makes use of large human cohort datasets, including transcriptomics and proteomics data, which she analyses using bioinformatics and systems biology techniques.

In 2018, Esther received her BSc in Data Science and Knowledge Engineering at Maastricht University. In 2021, she received her MSc in Systems Biology at Maastricht University. Before starting her PhD she worked as a junior modeler at RIVM.
